MCW Events is all about making moments matter. And we’re lucky enough to be connected with some of the best moment makers in the events industry. Jeff Canham is a Partner with Prestige Global Meeting Source, a site selection and event services firm. Jeff joined Prestige in 1999 after working as a hotel sales manager with various brands.

How did you get started in the Event Planning industry?

I started out as a sales manager at a great hotel. I loved it! But for career growth, I would’ve had to advance to be a Director of Sales. I knew what a big pain in the butt I was, and the mere thought of supervising five people like me was NOT very enticing. Like others, I was lucky to have met other industry leaders and was able to chart my own path. I love meeting people and collaborating with internal stakeholders and industry partners/vendors to create memorable events that spark creativity and foster face-to-face human interaction.

What’s an event planning/production tool you can’t live without?

An open mind, the art of collaboration (an overused word, like pivot), and the joy of serving and learning from others. A decent budget is also helpful.

What was something you wish you’d known before you began planning events?

That this industry even existed! A farm boy from South Dakota had no idea what the power of face-to-face meetings could do. I love–love–love this industry! Relationships matter.

What’s one of your favorite event moments?

I was fortunate enough to be included in an event for Four Seasons at their Hampshire (UK) resort. The event took place outside with a festival theme format. It was the absolute best in all of my 25+ years of experience. The setting, the theme, food, and live entertainment – all genuinely unbelievable!

What’s your favorite donut?

I haven’t met a donut that I didn’t like. My favorite would be either Captain Crunch (who doesn’t love CC) or maybe a glazed old-fashioned!

A Welcome Change

As an event planner, attending more meetings wasn’t high on my list. But there are exceptions, and these events were experiences I longed for, somehow intertwined with my work.
